Tell us about your family business (What you do, how you started, who’s involved etc)
The Galtee Group, based in Ballylanders, Co. Limerick, Ireland, was established in the early 1980’s by Sean and Marie Ryan. The company was originally set up to produce kitchen cabinet doors for the local market however it quickly developed into a key national supplier. In 1985, The Galtee Group installed a veneer laminating line and commenced veneering MDF boards. With the addition of this new product to the business, the company grew substantially year-on-year. Today, The Galtee Group has two main brands; Galtee Panels and Pronto Doors. As a leading Irish door manufacturer, Pronto Doors offers the largest range of decorative internal doors in Ireland. Galtee Panels supplies a complete range of decorative panels including veneer, melamine, Gloss & SuperMatt acrylic as well as other unique surface finishes. Our vast range of high-quality products are sold throughout Ireland and the UK. Now a second-generation family business, The Galtee Group is today run by Sean and Marie’s son Eoin Ryan as Managing Director, daughter Elaine Ryan as Head of Finance and son-in-law Pat Meade as Sales Director. The company has survived one of the worst economic recessions in Ireland and has gone through a period of growth since 2014, taking turnover from €6m during the recession to €12.5m for 2016, something that the Ryan family is immensely proud of.
What’s your proudest moment/biggest achievement as a family business?
Our proudest moment to date has been surviving the most recent recession and subsequently turning the business around to experience significant growth resulting in a doubling of our turnover in the last three years. We have also recently opened our brand new state of the art Pronto Doors Showroom and accompanying hub, The G Design Centre, a unique inspirational space for Architects and Interior Designers, in Dublin, which exposes our products to a whole new market.
