Mairead Mackle founded Homecare Independent Living (HCIL) in 1995 and in 1997 she joined forces with her husband Gerald to set up Homecare Housing. Over the last 23 years, the family-run company has become one of the leading private Community Health, Social Care & housing providers in both Northern & Southern Ireland.

The family business based in Milford, Co Armagh, provides homecare, domiciliary care, supported housing, nursing and support services. Its wide range of clients includes older people, families, patients recovering from surgery, people with addictions, single and young parents and young people leaving care.

Since the company was established, this award-winning family business has shown steady business growth and now employs over 1200 staff across Ireland. It provides 6000 calls every day and over 2000 beds every single night for vulnerable families or people who are at risk of homelessness.
Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) is at the heart of HCIL objectives. In 2010 HCIL established the iCare charity, which HCIL continues to operate, administer and fund.

iCare’s mission is to use the “power of people to create a better world”.
iCare is passionate about making a positive difference, creating real change within our society by offering opportunities for people to become better citizens through volunteering and delivering “iCare Wishes” to individuals, families and communities.

Since its inception, the charity has raised more than £300,000 to fund a range of community initiatives. Our funds are distributed through a programme called “iCare Wishes” whereby people write to iCare to request assistance where they see a need within their community. More than 200 individuals, families and organisations have benefited from ‘acts of kindness’ through iCare Wishes.

iCare is particularly proud of:
• Funding a brand-new state of the art Forest Hideaway at Lisanally Special School for pupils in 2016 at a cost of £10,000
• Donating £10,000 to Craigavon Neo-Natal Unit to fund two new pieces of equipment
• Supporting NSPCC with a cheque for £10,000
• Raising £42,000 in our 2017 Santa’s Gatelodge event

HCIL has won several awards and is proud that the work of iCare has contributed to this.
