Nominated for:
Family Business of the year

Founded in 1909 we’re into our fourth generation of family sign makers. In 1909 Charles Harrison founded a one-man signage painting business in the city of York. The Company was incorporated as Harrisons Signs Ltd in 1929 as Alfred Hunter, a second-generation professional ticket writer from Brighton and Grandfather to our current Business Director, joined Charles in the business.

In 1936 we did a job for the confectionary factory Rowntree, also based in York, now owned by food giant Nestle – a company which we’re proud to say is still one of our top customers. In 2014 we won the British Sign and Graphic Association award for Architectural Sign of the year for the living wall sign at the Nestle factory in Tutbury – one of our proudest moments. We won Hunters Estate Agents Supplier of the Year 2016, fitting out the internal and external signage for over 200 of their offices.

We have 20 people working at Harrisons, five of them are family members. Having the family heritage to protect and evolve, we look after the whole team. Investing in their skills, providing training to develop their knowledge and supporting them in their own career development. And on the fun side, we still take the team on their summer outing, a tradition that started back in 1929.

With so much competition out there, delighting our customers is what we aim for. Customer advocacy is our greatest selling tool and if we don’t delight, we fix and learn, after all, no one is perfect! With a very basic brief, we were suitably impressed with the proposed impactful designs, and felt they had captured exactly what we needed! Energi Trampoline Park. We regularly need signage to be fitted last minute and with tight turnaround times, Harrisons are always able to deliver on this.
