Funky Hampers was set up by Sarah Asfour. The 37-year-old set up from her garage in 2007 after moving out of London to Eastbourne in search of a better specialist school for her autistic son Samuel. Pregnant with her second son and unemployed after leaving her city job, the move was a fresh start. The family had no relatives or friends in the area but knew the move was the best thing for Samuel. It was then her creative juices started flowing when she received a gift hamper she felt could be improved. She launched the company offering chocolate treats, luxury foods, pamper products and even gifts for pets.

The business took off and was billed as the answer for the person who is hard to buy for. Customers can pick items for a hamper or get one which is already assembled. It employs ten full-time staff and has a turnover about to hit £1,000,000. Funky Hampers now offers a huge range of over 5,000 gifts, many of which are exclusive to them. They have also just launched a facility to customise your own greetings card which can be added to an order or ordered by itself. They are constantly coming up with amazingly cool gift ideas and are growing at an amazing pace and all with no external investment, just natural growth and repeat business. Christmas 2017 saw a 35% increase from the previous year.
