Nominated for:
Entrepreneur of the year
Technology & innovation

Husband and wife team, Nick and Kath Whitworth founded Celtic & Co Ltd (then Celtic Sheepskin Ltd) in 1990. They are still closely involved with the day to day running, with Nick overseeing the operations and international development, and Kath very much leading the creative direction of the product range. This involves sourcing natural, ethical materials and finding local manufacturers to supplement the home produced sheepskin boots and slippers range.

The firm started as a sheepskin boot manufacturer, based in Newquay, Cornwall. Nick quickly registered the UGG trademark within the UK which was later sold to the Deckers group, providing capital to allow the company to expand and diversify the product range to include sheepskin accessories, outerwear, homeware and now clothing.

Their daughter Clare is now working within the marketing team, helping to manage the 5 catalogues a year that get distributed to the customer database. The business is made up of a small senior leadership team, managing marketing, finance, production, dispatch and customer services. Customer service and product quality are what set us apart and this is evident from the number of recommendations we get from our customers. We love hearing stories from our customers about our boots being passed down between siblings, and all generations within a family wearing our slippers – this really brings our family values of the company to life!
