Tell us about your family business (What you do, how you started, who’s involved etc)
Husband and wife, Roy and Marion Baker started the label printing company in April 1973 in Kings Cross. Steadily building a reputation for good quality labels, accounts were established with now familiar brands such as Gillette, Max Factor and Guerlain. Their son Steve Baker joined them at the factory regularly from age 14 and has been Managing Director since Roy’s retirement at the turn of the century. Steve’s wife Mandy Baker is HR and Finance Manager and is also a qualified Coach & NLP Practitioner providing staff at Bakers with one-to-one coaching sessions on any number of subjects, both work and personal issues. Their sons Harry (age 21) and Tom (age 19) are both involved in various roles within the company during university holidays.
Baker Labels has come a long way from the small factory at Kings Cross to their present state of the art purpose built a factory in Brentwood now employing 60 staff. We are the leading trade label printer in the UK with a turnover of £7.8million and have a loyal, experienced and knowledgeable management team and support staff. Some employees have been with the company for 3 decades and we’re proud to have low staff turnover. With such skilled, highly trained technicians it makes good business sense to provide them with the best equipment to work with so Bakers is constantly investing in the latest technology in printing presses to keep us at the forefront of trade label printing. Our philosophy has always been to be as versatile as possible. We aim to accommodate any requests from our customers (no matter how challenging) and are capable of meeting all your label requirements.  In other words, we aim to never say no.

What’s your proudest moment/biggest achievement as a family business?
Our latest move in 2011 to our purpose built a factory in Brentwood, Essex that has allowed us to grow, expand, invest and reach new levels of printing capabilities while also establishing and building community links in the area. We’ve created a positive environment to work in and space to provide whatever our customers are looking for.

What do you love about being a family business?
“Bakers is more than just a “company.” It’s a living, breathing entity filled with loyal, dedicated, hardworking people who truly want to produce quality work for our customers. I’m proud and humbled to work with such a great team and will continue to invest in the best equipment, materials, training and anything else required to ensure we remain a successful company” says Steve Baker
